AFBF Staff

The American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture recognized two student teams for their innovative solutions to water management and filtration in the Spring 2020 Purple Plow Challenge.

The following teams were selected as the winners in this national STEM competition:

  • TechnoTitans (Lake Zurich, Illinois) for their rain garden crafted from underground materials to filter water and decrease runoff
  • LeRoy Jr High (LeRoy, Illinois) for their innovative underground water filter which can be attached to fencing

Each team received a 3-D printer and a $100 gift card for their class. Their ideas and prototypes were shared with their fellow classmates and communities.

Purple Plow is a free STEM-education platform for middle-school and high-school educators. Students research scenarios related to food, hunger and sustainability and build their own prototypes to solve problems. The resources – provided for facilitators, students and volunteers – are written by teachers, aligned to national learning standards and reviewed by industry experts.

Purple Plow is a special project of the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture. The resources are made possible through the generous support of the title sponsor, Corteva Agriscience.

The Fall 2020 Challenge: Waste Not Want Not is currently open. Visit www.purpleplow.org for more information on Purple Plow Challenges and other free resources. Follow along on Twitter: @ThePurplePlow.
