Director, Leadership & Organizational Training
DEPARTMENT: Leadership, Education & Engagement
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Provide internal consulting and training services for Farm Bureau leadership and organization development.
REPORTS TO: Managing Director, Leadership Development
LOCATION: Washington, DC; eligible for telework 2 days/week
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Present training programs for Farm Bureau volunteer leaders and employees of Farm Bureau. Training programs include a wide range of topics including roles and responsibilities of non-profit boards, effective committees, program planning, public speaking, teambuilding, change management and personal leadership development.
- Provide staff leadership for online learning programs through Farm Bureau University.
- Provide staff leadership for programs administered by the leadership development team such as New Employee Orientation and Grassroots Engagement Training.
- Collaborate with AFBF and state Farm Bureau staff to create resources to support the development of the organization.
- Consult with Farm Bureau organizations (county, state, national) on non-profit industry standards, association management trends and Farm Bureau best practices.
- Assist state Farm Bureaus in creating and implementing organization development strategies, including program planning, strategic plans and board training.
- Plan and implement conferences for staff and volunteers.
- Promote the learning and development resources of the American Farm Bureau to decision-makers.
- Recommend purchases of leadership and organization development resources.
- Provide staff assistance at AFBF annual convention and other AFBF programs (Young Farmers & Ranchers Leadership Conference and FUSION) as needed.
- Provide details for reports to the AFBF Board of Directors.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of adult education and organization development strategies.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, state Farm Bureau staff and volunteer leaders in a variety of roles. This position is highly visible in the organization and a collaborative approach to achieving goals is essential.
EDUCATION OR TRAINING REQUIRED:
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Excellent facilitation skills and confidence level working with large and small groups
- 5 years’ experience in a professional environment, including 3 years’ experience in training, leadership development or a relevant field.
- Experience with word processing and preparing visual aids in Microsoft Office
- Experience working with volunteers, preferably in agriculture
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Strong time management, organizational skills and ability to manage priorities while traveling
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/SKILLS:
- Master’s degree
- Professional credential (e.g. CAE)
- Experience in a national membership association
- Experience managing online learning management systems/platforms
- Experience with Articulate 360 software
OTHER REQUIREMENTS/NOTES:
- U.S. travel required approximately 65% of the time. Actual travel varies at different times during the year.
- Preference will be given to applicants who have all requirements; however, consideration will be given to applicants with at least three year’s professional experience. Title and salary commensurate to experience.
