The Washington Post recently quoted American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall on the importance of trade to American agriculture.
“We want a trade treaty,” said Zippy Duvall, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation. “We’re concerned [about Trump’s trade rhetoric], but he’s our president and we’re going to try to support him. We did certainly let him know that we’re nervous.”
While many industries praised the United States’ withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the agricultural industry did not agree with the U.S. removing itself from the trade agreement. The agricultural industry exports roughly one-fifth of everything it produces, notes the Post.
